Global Settings
Configure system-wide settings that affect how Musket operates across all modules.
1 What's on this page
The Global Settings page provides centralized management of core system configurations through a tabbed interface. Each tab controls a different aspect of system-wide settings that impact multiple modules across Musket.
Company Settings
Manage your primary company details, subsidiaries, and departments in a hierarchical structure.
Currencies
Configure active and deactivated currencies, set the system main currency, and define conversion factors.
Exchange Rates
View historical exchange rate submissions and update current rates for currency conversions.
Active Countries
Control which countries are active in the system, organized by continent for easier management.
EFB Settings
Configure Electronic Flight Bag options for pilot flight mode and aircraft mode features.
Who can access: Only administrators with the Global Settings (Full) permission can view or edit this page. Users without this permission see an access notification instead.
Changes made here affect the entire system. Test carefully in a non-production environment before applying changes to live operations.
2 Company Settings tab
The Company Settings tab displays your organisation's structure as a hierarchical tree. You can view and manage the primary company, subsidiaries, and departments in an expandable/collapsible view.
Understanding the hierarchy
The company structure follows this pattern:
- Primary Company: The top-level organisation (your company)
- Subsidiaries: Child companies owned by the primary company
- Departments: Divisions or departments within the primary company or subsidiaries
Viewing the structure
- The primary company appears at the top level
- Click the expand/collapse button ( / ) next to any item to show or hide its children
- Each item shows its name and type (Company, Subsidiary, or Department)
- Items can be active or deactivated—toggle between views using the radio buttons
Managing the structure
Common actions you can perform:
- Add Company/Subsidiary: Create new companies or subsidiaries in the structure
- Add Department: Create departments within companies
- Edit: Update details for existing entities
- Deactivate: Mark entities as inactive without deleting them
- Reactivate: Restore deactivated entities
- Reorder: Change the sort order of items at the same level
Warning: Changes to the company structure affect user access, reporting hierarchies, and organisational workflows. Coordinate with system administrators before making structural changes.
3 Currencies tab
The Currencies tab manages the currencies available in Musket for financial transactions, invoicing, and reporting. You can add currencies, set conversion factors, and designate the system main currency.
Active and deactivated views
The tab shows two radio button views:
- Active: Currencies currently available for selection in financial forms and transactions
- Deactivated: Currencies removed from active use but retained for historical records
Currency table columns

| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Edit | Opens the currency details window to modify name, symbol, and conversion rates |
| Name | Full currency name (e.g., "United States Dollar", "Euro") |
| Symbol | Currency symbol or code (e.g., "$", "€", "USD", "EUR") |
| System main currency | Check mark () if this is the default currency for the system |
| Deactivate / Activate | Toggle button to move currency between active and deactivated lists |
Add a new currency
- Click Add New Currency (top-right)
- Enter the Currency name (e.g., "South African Rand")
- Enter the Currency symbol (e.g., "ZAR" or "R")

System main currency
The system main currency is the default for financial transactions and reports. Only one currency can be the main currency at a time. When you set a new main currency, the previous one automatically loses its main currency status.
Warning: You cannot deactivate the system main currency. Change the main currency to another currency before deactivating the current one.
Deactivate or reactivate a currency
To deactivate an active currency:
- Ensure it is not the system main currency
- Click the Deactivate button () for the currency
- The currency moves to the Deactivated view
To reactivate a deactivated currency:
- Switch to the Deactivated view
- Click the Activate button () for the currency
- The currency returns to the Active view
Search and pagination
- Search: Type in the search box to filter currencies by name
- Items per page: Change the number of currencies displayed per page (15, 30, or 60)
- Pagination: Use First, Previous, Next, and Last buttons to navigate pages
4 Exchange Rates tab
The Exchange Rates tab displays a historical log of exchange rate updates and allows you to submit new rates for currency conversions used throughout the system.
Historical exchange rates table
The table shows all previous exchange rate submissions with:
- Valid from (UTC): Date and time when the rates became effective
- Date submitted: When the rates were entered into the system
- Submitted by: User who submitted the rates
- Conversion rates: One column per non-main currency showing the exchange rate from the main currency
For example, if "USD" is the system main currency, you'll see columns like "1 USD : EUR", "1 USD : GBP", showing how many units of each currency equals one USD.
Update exchange rates
- Click Update exchange rates (top-right)
- The system pre-fills the form with the most recent exchange rates
- Set the Valid from (UTC) date and time when these rates become effective
- Update conversion factors for each currency pair as needed
- Click Submit to save the new rates
The new exchange rates are recorded with a timestamp and your username, creating an audit trail of all rate changes.
Search and sort
- Search: Filter by date or submitter name
- Sort: Click column headers to sort by valid from date, submission date, or submitter
- Pagination: Navigate through historical submissions using page controls
Tip: Exchange rates with a future "Valid from" date allow you to schedule rate changes in advance. The system automatically applies the correct rates based on the transaction date.
5 Active Countries tab
The Active Countries tab controls which countries appear in dropdowns and forms throughout Musket. Countries are organized by continent for easier management.
Viewing countries by continent
The table groups countries by continent:
- Each continent shows a header row with its name
- A count displays the number of active countries in that continent
- Click the expand button () to show the list of countries
- Click the collapse button () to hide the list
- Countries display in a three-column layout within each continent
Manage countries
- Click Manage countries (top-right)
- A window opens showing all countries grouped by continent
- Check the box next to countries you want to activate
- Uncheck the box next to countries you want to deactivate
- Use the search box to find specific countries by name, continent, or ISO code
- Click Submit to apply changes
Search functionality
The search box filters countries by:
- Country name: e.g., "South Africa", "United Kingdom"
- Continent name: e.g., "Africa", "Europe"
- ISO code: e.g., "ZAF", "GBR"
Only active countries appear in dropdowns throughout the system, such as when selecting airport locations, client addresses, or crew nationalities.
Tip: If you need to reference a country that's currently deactivated, activate it temporarily, complete your task, then deactivate it again if it's not regularly used.
6 EFB Settings tab
The EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) Settings tab configures options for the Musket EFB application used by pilots on tablets and mobile devices.
EFB settings overview
The tab displays current EFB configuration options:
- Allow uploading flight documents (Pilot Flight Mode): Enables pilots to upload documents while using the EFB in flight mode
- Allow capturing post-flight actuals metrics (Pilot Flight Mode): Permits pilots to record actual flight data after completing a flight
- Allow creating flights (Pilot Flight Mode): Allows pilots to create new flights directly from the EFB application
- Allow Aircraft Mode: Enables a shared device mode where multiple pilots can use the same EFB device
- Aircraft Mode Password: Sets the password required to access Aircraft Mode (if enabled)
Edit EFB settings
- Click Edit settings (top-right)
- Check or uncheck the options to enable or disable features
- If enabling Aircraft Mode, enter a secure password
- Click Submit to apply changes
Changes to EFB settings apply immediately to all EFB users. Pilots may need to restart the EFB application to see the updated configuration.
Note: The "Allow creating flights" option automatically enables "Allow capturing post-flight actuals metrics" because creating flights requires the ability to record flight data.
7 Permissions
Access to Global Settings is restricted to ensure only authorized administrators can modify system-wide configurations.
Required permission
Users must have the Global Settings (Full) permission to view or edit any tab on this page. This permission is typically assigned to:
- System administrators
- Operations managers
- IT support staff
- Senior management with system configuration responsibilities
What happens without permission
Users without the required permission see a "Not Authorised" message when they navigate to the Global Settings page. They cannot view or edit any settings on any tab.
Note: To request access to Global Settings, contact your system administrator. They can review your role and assign the appropriate permission if needed.
8 Troubleshooting
Common issues and solutions
I can't see the Global Settings page
Why: You don't have the required permission to access Global Settings.
Fix: Contact your system administrator and request the "Global Settings (Full)" permission. Explain which settings you need to manage and why.
I can't deactivate a currency
Why: The currency is set as the system main currency, which cannot be deactivated.
Fix: First, edit a different currency and set it as the system main currency. Then you can deactivate the previous main currency.
Exchange rates aren't being used in transactions
Why: The "Valid from" date may be in the future, or the wrong rates were entered.
Fix: Check the "Valid from" date in the exchange rates table. If it's in the future, the system uses the previous rates until that date. If rates are incorrect, submit a new exchange rate update with the correct values.
A country doesn't appear in dropdown lists
Why: The country is deactivated in the Active Countries tab.
Fix: Go to the Active Countries tab, click "Manage countries", search for the country, check its box, and click Submit to activate it.
EFB settings changes aren't reflected in the app
Why: The EFB application may be using cached settings.
Fix: Ask pilots to close and restart the EFB application. If the issue persists, they may need to log out and log back in, or clear the app's cache.
I can't find a subsidiary or department
Why: It may be deactivated, or you're viewing the wrong level in the hierarchy.
Fix: Switch to the "Deactivated" view using the radio buttons. Also try expanding parent items to reveal nested children. Use the search function if available.
