Notifications & Tags
View, read, and acknowledge notifications and tags sent to you by administrators.
1 What's on this page
The Notifications & Tags page displays all notifications and tags that have been sent to you. These are messages from administrators containing important information about operations, safety, compliance, or other organisational matters. The page allows you to view unread and previously read notifications, search and filter the list, and acknowledge notifications when required.
What you see here
- Search bar: Quickly find notifications by tag number, name, or type
- Notifications table: Comprehensive list showing all your notifications with status indicators
- Pagination controls: Navigate through multiple pages when you have many notifications
- Read/unread indicators: Visual cues showing which notifications you've acknowledged
Key concepts
- Notifications/Tags: Messages sent to specific users or roles requiring acknowledgement (the terms are used interchangeably in Musket)
- Tag Types: Categories of notifications with different colours and urgency levels (e.g., safety alerts, operational updates)
- Deadline: Some notifications have deadlines by which you must acknowledge them
- Acknowledgement: Confirming you have read and understood a notification
Notification Bell: A bell icon appears in the top-right corner of the screen showing your unread notification status. Click the bell to quickly view unread notifications.
Login Popup: When you have unread notifications, a window automatically appears on login prompting you to read and acknowledge them.
2 Notification bell & quick access
The notification bell is located in the top-right corner of every page, next to your user profile dropdown. It provides a quick way to check your notification status and access unread notifications without navigating to the full Notifications & Tags page.
Bell states
All read (Green)
Green bell icon indicates all your notifications have been acknowledged. No action required.
Unread (Yellow/Warning)
Yellow bell icon with a badge showing the count of unread notifications. You have unread notifications but no missed deadlines.
The badge displays the count (e.g., "3") or "99+" if you have more than 99 unread notifications.
Deadline missed (Red)
Red shaking bell icon with a badge. You have unread notifications with missed deadlines requiring immediate attention.
The shaking animation draws attention to urgent notifications.
Quick view window
Clicking the notification bell opens a window showing your unread notifications. From this window you can:
- View a table of all unread notifications with key details
- Search and filter unread notifications
- Click the "Read" button to open a notification and acknowledge it
- Sort notifications by tag number, name, effective date, or issuer
After acknowledging notifications in the quick view window, the bell icon updates to reflect your current status. You can close the window and return to your work without navigating to the full page.
3 Login notification popup
When you log in to Musket, if you have unread notifications, a window automatically appears displaying them. This ensures you don't miss important communications.
Force acknowledgement: Some notifications are marked as requiring acknowledgement on login. These notifications must be acknowledged before you can dismiss the window and access the system. The window cannot be closed until all forced-acknowledgement notifications have been read.
The login popup window displays the same information as the quick view window and allows you to:
- View all unread notifications in a table format
- Read notification details and attached documents
- Acknowledge notifications individually
- Search for specific notifications if you have many unread
Once you've acknowledged all required notifications, you can close the window and proceed to the main application. The window will reappear on your next login if new unread notifications have been sent to you.
4 View and search notifications
The main Notifications & Tags page displays a comprehensive table of all notifications sent to you, both read and unread. You can search, sort, and navigate through your notifications efficiently.
Search functionality
The search bar at the top-left of the page allows you to filter notifications by:
- Tag number (Code): The unique identifier for each notification (e.g., "SAF-001")
- Name: The notification title or subject
- Tag type name: The category of notification (e.g., "Safety Alert", "Operational Update")
As you type in the search box, the table updates instantly to show only matching notifications. Clear the search box to see all notifications again.
Notifications table
The main table displays all your notifications with the following columns:
Table columns
| Column | Description | Sortable |
|---|---|---|
| Read | Button to view and acknowledge the notification. Colour indicates status:
|
No |
| Tag # | Unique code for the notification (e.g., "SAF-001") | Yes |
| Name | Title or subject of the notification | Yes |
| Type | Category of notification with colour-coded background (red, yellow, green, or custom colour) | No |
| Effective Dates | Date range showing when the notification is effective (from date - until date, or "N/A" if no end date) | Yes (by from date) |
| Deadline | Date by which you must acknowledge the notification, or "N/A" if no deadline applies | No |
| Issued by | Name of the administrator who created the notification | Yes |
| Applies to | Icon showing who the notification was sent to. Hover over the icon to see the list of roles and specific users | No |
| Acknowledged | Date you acknowledged the notification, or a red X icon if unread | No |
Sorting
Click any sortable column header to sort the table by that column. An icon appears next to the column name:
- Ascending sort (A-Z, oldest to newest)
- Descending sort (Z-A, newest to oldest)
Click the same column header again to reverse the sort direction. The table defaults to showing unread notifications first, then sorts by effective date (newest first).
Pagination
When you have 16 or more notifications, pagination controls appear:
- Items per page selector: Choose to display 15, 30, or 60 notifications per page
- Page navigation: Use the page number buttons or arrow buttons to navigate between pages
- Page indicator: Shows your current page and total pages (e.g., "Page 2 of 5")
5 Read and acknowledge notifications
To read a notification and acknowledge it, click the button in the "Read" column for that notification. The button colour indicates whether you've already read the notification:
Red button (pulsing icon)
Unread notification within its deadline. The magnifying glass icon pulses to draw attention. Click to read and acknowledge.
Yellow button
Unread notification that has expired (past its valid until date). Click to read for reference only.
Blue button
Already acknowledged notification. Click to view details again (read-only).
Acknowledgement workflow (unread notifications)
When you click a red or yellow button for an unread notification, a window opens showing the notification details. The window displays:
Notification details card
- Tag code: Unique identifier
- Tag type: Category of notification
- Tag name: Title or subject
- Effective from: Start date of the notification
- Deadline: Date by which you must acknowledge (or "N/A")
- Valid until: End date of the notification (or "N/A" if ongoing)
- Notification details: Full text content of the notification
Attached documents card
If the notification has attached documents, they appear in a table below the notification details. Each document has:
- File name: Name of the attached document
- View button: Click to open the document in a viewer window
- Read indicator: Checkmark shows if you've viewed the document
Some notifications require you to open and view all documents before you can acknowledge them. If this is required, the "Acknowledge tag" button will be disabled until you've viewed all documents.
Custom form fields
Some notifications include custom form fields that you must complete when acknowledging. These might include:
- Text fields for comments or feedback
- Dropdown selections for specific choices
- Date fields for planned actions
- User or airport selection fields
All required fields must be completed before you can acknowledge the notification. Validation messages appear if you attempt to acknowledge without completing required fields.
Acknowledge button
Once you've reviewed the notification details, viewed any required documents, and completed any custom form fields, click the Acknowledge tag button to confirm you've read and understood the notification.
After acknowledging, the notification is marked as read with the current date and time. It remains in your notifications list for future reference, and the "Read" button changes to blue. The notification bell icon and unread count update immediately.
View-only mode (already acknowledged)
When you click the blue button for a notification you've already acknowledged, a read-only window opens. This window shows:
- All notification details (same as acknowledgement window)
- Attached documents (view-only, no tracking)
- Any form field responses you provided when you acknowledged
You cannot acknowledge the notification again or edit your responses. This mode is for reference only.
6 Tag types and colour coding
Notifications are categorised by tag type, which determines their colour coding and urgency level. Your administrators define tag types for your organisation based on operational needs.
Standard colours
Red
Typically used for urgent safety alerts, critical operational updates, or mandatory compliance notifications requiring immediate attention.
Yellow
Often used for important notices, policy updates, or operational changes that require awareness but may not be immediately urgent.
Green
Typically used for general information, updates, or confirmations that are useful to know but not time-sensitive.
Deadlines and sign-on restrictions
Some tag types have deadlines and can restrict your ability to sign on for duties if unacknowledged:
- Deadline: A specific date by which you must acknowledge the notification, calculated from the effective date plus a number of days defined for that tag type
- Sign-on restriction: If enabled for a tag type, you may be prevented from signing on for duties until you acknowledge all notifications of that type
Deadlines appear in the "Deadline" column of the notifications table. If a notification has no deadline, "N/A" is shown. Pay attention to red bell icons and missed deadlines to avoid sign-on restrictions.
7 Who receives notifications
Administrators can send notifications to specific users, entire roles, or all users. The "Applies to" column shows who received each notification.
Viewing recipients
Hover over the icon in the "Applies to" column to see:
- Roles: If the notification was sent to entire roles (e.g., "Flight Crew", "Maintenance Staff")
- Specific users: If the notification was sent to selected individuals by name
- All users: If the notification applies to everyone in the organisation
You only see notifications that have been sent to you based on your roles or because you were specifically selected. You do not see notifications sent to other users or roles that don't include you.
