Country Fees
Manage country-specific airport fee structures for accurate quotation and operational planning.
1 What's on this page
The Country Fees page allows you to configure standardised airport fee structures for countries in your network. This streamlines fee management by grouping airports into categories within each country, then defining fee templates that apply to all airports in that category. This approach reduces duplication when multiple airports in a country share similar fee structures.
Fee Categories
Create airport fee categories within each country (e.g., "Major International", "Regional", "Domestic") to group airports with similar fee structures. Categories are fully customisable and can be reordered to match your operational priorities.
Airport Assignment
Assign airports to fee categories to indicate which fee templates apply. Each airport can belong to multiple categories if it has different fee structures for different scenarios.
Fee Templates
Define standardised fee templates for each category, specifying fee types, currencies, pricing, and calculation methods. Fees can be aircraft-specific or apply to all aircraft types.
Quantity Calculation
Configure how fee quantities are calculated—either as a fixed default number or automatically based on the number of passengers on the flight.
Who can access: Users with the Airport Services & Fees permission can view this page. Users with edit permissions can add countries, create categories, assign airports, and configure fee templates. Without these permissions, an access notification displays instead.
Only countries marked as active in the system are available to add to the fees list. Countries must first exist in Musket before they can be configured on this page.
Key concepts
- Country fees: Standardised fee structures defined at the country level that apply to airports within that country. This reduces duplication when multiple airports share similar fee arrangements.
- Fee category: A named grouping of airports within a country that share the same fee structure (e.g., "Major hubs", "Regional airports", "Domestic terminals"). Categories help organise airports and simplify fee management.
- Fee template: A reusable fee definition that includes the fee type, currency, unit price, and quantity calculation method. Templates apply to all airports assigned to a category.
- Airport fee type: The standardised category of charge (e.g., Landing, Parking, Navigation) configured in Settings. Fee types define whether the fee applies to arrivals, departures, day operations, or night operations.
- Quantity calculation: How the number of fee units is determined—either a fixed default number or calculated automatically based on passenger count.
2 Viewing countries
The main view displays a table of all countries that have been added to the fees system. Each row shows the country name, edit button, airport assignment button, and columns for each fee category defined for that country.
2.1 Search
Use the search box at the top-left to find countries quickly. The search applies to:
- Country name
Search results update as you type. An information icon next to the search box displays the searchable field when you hover over it.
2.2 Countries table
The table displays all countries configured in the fees system. The number of category columns varies based on the country with the most categories in the current page view.
Table Columns
| Column | Meaning | Sortable | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edit | Edit fee categories button | No | Opens the fee categories window. Only available with edit permission |
| Country | Country name | Yes | Click the column header to sort alphabetically |
| Assign airports | Airport assignment button | No | Opens the airport assignment window. Only available with edit permission |
| Country specific airport fees | Fee category buttons (variable columns) | No | One column per fee category. Green button indicates fees are configured; grey indicates empty category. Click to edit fees |
| Delete | Remove country from fees button | No | Removes the country and all associated categories from the fees system. Only available with edit permission |
Category columns: The number of category columns adjusts dynamically based on the maximum number of categories for any country in the current page. Countries with fewer categories display a dash (-) in empty columns. Categories are displayed in the order you set when editing them.
2.3 Pagination
If more than 15 countries exist, pagination controls appear at the bottom of the table. Choose 15, 30, or 60 items per page using the dropdown above the table. Use the pagination controls to navigate between pages.
3 Add country to fees list
Click the "Add country to list" button (top-right) to add a country to the fees system. This button is only visible with edit permission.
Adding a country
- Click the "Add country to list" button to open the selection window
- Select a country from the dropdown list. Only active countries not already in the fees system appear in the list
- Click Submit to add the country
The newly added country appears in the table with no fee categories. You must then edit the country to create fee categories.
Note: Adding a country to the fees list doesn't automatically configure any fees. You must create fee categories, assign airports, and define fee templates separately after adding the country.
4 Manage fee categories
Click the edit button () in any country row to open the fee categories window. This window allows you to create, rename, reorder, and remove fee categories for the selected country.
Permission required: The edit button only appears if you have the edit permission for Airport Services & Fees.
4.1 Create fee categories
Adding a new category
- In the fee categories window, click the "Add new category" button at the bottom of the table
- A new row appears. Enter a descriptive name for the category (e.g., "Major International", "Regional Airports", "Domestic Terminals")
- The category is automatically added to the bottom of the list
- Use the arrow buttons to reorder categories if needed
- Click Submit to save all changes
Categories can represent any grouping that makes sense for your operation. Common approaches include grouping by airport size, operational complexity, geographical region, or regulatory classification.
4.2 Reorder categories
Use the up arrow () and down arrow () buttons in the first column to change the order in which categories appear. The order determines the sequence of category columns in the main countries table.
Tip: Order categories by frequency of use or importance to make the most commonly accessed categories appear first in the table. For example, place "Major International" before "Regional" if most of your operations use major airports.
4.3 Rename categories
To rename a category, simply edit the text in the Name field for that category row. Changes take effect when you click Submit.
4.4 Remove categories
To remove a category, click the red trash icon () in the Remove column. The category is removed immediately from the form. Any airports assigned to this category and all associated fee templates are removed when you click Submit.
Warning: Removing a category deletes all fee templates configured for that category and removes the category assignment from all airports. This action cannot be undone. If you need to temporarily disable a category, consider leaving it empty instead of deleting it.
5 Assign airports to categories
Click the "Assign airports" button () in any country row to open the airport assignment window. This window displays all airports in the selected country and allows you to assign them to one or more fee categories.
5.1 Search and filter airports
Use the search box at the top of the window to find specific airports. The search applies to:
- IATA code
- ICAO code
- Custom display code
- Airport name (full and short)
Search results update as you type. An information icon next to the search box displays the searchable fields.
5.2 Airport assignment table
The table displays all active airports in the country. Each row shows airport codes, name, assigned categories, and an assignment button.
Table Columns
| Column | Meaning | Sortable | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assign Category | Dropdown to assign airport to a category | No | Shows categories not yet assigned to this airport. Displays "No categories" if all are assigned or none exist |
| Assigned Categories | List items showing currently assigned categories | No | Each item has a trash icon button to unassign the category |
| IATA Code | Three-letter IATA airport code | Yes | Click the column header to sort |
| ICAO Code | Four-letter ICAO airport code | Yes | Click the column header to sort |
| Custom Code | Organisation-specific airport identifier | Yes | Shows "N/A" if not configured |
| Name | Airport display name | Yes | Uses short name if configured, otherwise full name |
5.3 Assign airport to category
Assigning an airport
- Locate the airport in the table (use search if needed)
- Click the "Assign Category" dropdown button
- Select the category to assign from the dropdown menu. Only categories not already assigned to this airport appear
- The category appears immediately as a list item in the "Assigned Categories" column
- Repeat for additional categories if the airport should belong to multiple groups
- Click Submit to save all assignments
Airports can be assigned to multiple categories if they have different fee structures for different scenarios. For example, an airport might have both international and domestic terminal fees, so it could belong to both "International" and "Domestic" categories.
5.4 Remove category assignment
To remove a category assignment from an airport, click the trash icon button on the category list item in the "Assigned Categories" column. The assignment is removed immediately and takes effect when you click Submit.
Note: Removing a category assignment from an airport doesn't delete any fee templates. The templates remain defined for the category and automatically apply if you reassign the airport to that category in the future.
5.5 Pagination and sorting
If more than 15 airports exist, pagination controls appear. Choose 15, 30, or 60 items per page using the dropdown. Click column headers to sort the table by that column. The sort order toggles between ascending and descending with each click.
6 Configure category fees
Click a category button in the main countries table to open the fee configuration window for that category. Green buttons indicate the category has fee templates configured; grey buttons indicate no fees are configured yet.
6.1 Category details
The top section of the window displays the category name. You can edit the name here if needed. Changes to the category name are saved when you click Submit.
6.2 Fee templates table
The fee templates table displays all fees configured for this category. Each row defines one fee that applies to all airports assigned to the category.
Adding a fee template
Click the "Add new fee" button at the bottom of the fee templates table to add a new row. Then configure the following fields:
- Fee type: Select the airport fee type from the dropdown (e.g., Landing, Parking, Navigation). Fee types are configured in Settings. Required field.
- Currency: Select the currency for this fee. Only active currencies appear in the list. Required field.
- Price per unit: Enter the cost per unit of the fee. This is the base price before quantity calculation. Required field.
- Default qty. type: Select how the quantity is calculated:
- Fixed default quantity: Use a fixed number you specify
- No. of passengers: Multiply by the passenger count on the flight
- Default qty.: If "Fixed default quantity" is selected, enter the quantity. Otherwise, this is calculated automatically based on passenger count. Required field when using fixed quantity.
- Aircraft Type: Optionally specify an aircraft type to restrict this fee to specific aircraft. If blank, the fee applies to all aircraft types.
Tip: Use aircraft-specific fees when charges vary significantly by aircraft size or capability. For example, you might define separate landing fees for light aircraft, medium jets, and heavy jets. Leave the aircraft type blank for fees that apply universally.
Removing a fee template
To remove a fee template, click the red trash icon () in the Remove column. The fee is removed from the table immediately and takes effect when you click Submit.
6.3 Fee template inheritance
Fee templates defined for a category apply to all airports assigned to that category. When you update a fee template, the changes automatically affect all airports in the category. This inheritance model simplifies fee management and ensures consistency across similar airports.
Example: If you create a "Regional Airports" category with a landing fee template of USD 150 per arrival, every airport assigned to that category will have a USD 150 landing fee. If you later change the template to USD 175, all airports in the category automatically use the new rate.
7 Remove country from fees
To remove a country from the fees system, click the delete button () in any country row. A confirmation window appears asking you to confirm the deletion.
What happens when you remove a country
- The country is removed from the fees list
- All fee categories for that country are deleted
- All fee templates defined for those categories are deleted
- All airport assignments to those categories are removed
- The country itself remains in the system and can be re-added later
Warning: Removing a country deletes all associated categories, fee templates, and airport assignments. This action cannot be undone. If you need to temporarily disable fees for a country, consider removing the fee templates instead of removing the entire country.

9 Troubleshooting & FAQs
9.1 Common questions
Why can't I see the country I need?
Only countries marked as active in the system appear in the "Add country to list" dropdown. Additionally, countries already in the fees list don't appear. Check with an administrator if you need to activate a country or if you think it should be in the system.
Why don't my category changes appear in the main table?
Changes to categories only take effect after you click Submit in the fee categories window. If you closed the window without submitting, your changes were not saved. Reopen the window and make your changes again, then click Submit.
How do I know which airports are assigned to a category?
Open the "Assign airports" window for the country. The "Assigned Categories" column shows all categories assigned to each airport. You can also look at the category badge displayed next to each airport in the assignment table.
Can an airport belong to multiple categories?
Yes. Airports can be assigned to multiple categories if they have different fee structures for different scenarios. For example, an airport might have separate fees for international and domestic operations, so it could belong to both "International" and "Domestic" categories.
What happens to fees if I delete a category?
All fee templates defined for that category are deleted, and all airports are unassigned from that category. This action cannot be undone. If you need to temporarily disable a category, consider leaving it in place but removing its fee templates instead.
Why is a category button grey instead of green?
Grey buttons indicate the category exists but has no fee templates configured yet. Green buttons indicate at least one fee template is configured for that category. Click the button to add fee templates.
Can I copy fee templates from one category to another?
The Country Fees page doesn't have a built-in copy function. You can manually recreate fee templates in multiple categories, or configure categories to group airports so they share the same templates. If you frequently need to copy fees, consider restructuring your categories to reduce duplication.
How do aircraft-specific fees work?
When you specify an aircraft type for a fee template, that fee only applies when the flight uses that specific aircraft type. If you leave the aircraft type blank, the fee applies to all aircraft types. You can define multiple fee templates with different aircraft types to create tiered pricing.
