Services & Fees Settings
Configure airport fee types and handling service types used throughout Musket for quotations and flight planning.
1 What's on this page
The Services & Fees Settings page allows administrators to configure the foundational fee and service classifications used throughout Musket. These settings define the types of fees that can be applied at airports and the types of handling services that can be provided by handlers. Once configured here, these classifications become available when setting up specific fees and services at individual airports or with handlers.
Airport Fee Types
Define standard categories of airport fees (e.g., landing fees, parking fees, terminal charges) that can be applied across different airports. Each fee type can be configured with applicability rules for departures, arrivals, day operations, and night operations.
Handling Service Types
Create standard classifications for handling services (e.g., aircraft towing, ground power, passenger services) that handlers provide at airports. These service types ensure consistent naming and organisation across all handler configurations.
Who can access: Users with the Services & Fees Settings permission can view this page. Without this permission, an access notification displays instead. Edit capabilities require appropriate edit permissions within each tab.
Key concepts
- Airport fee type: A standard category of airport fee (e.g., landing fee, parking fee, security charge) that can be applied at multiple airports with airport-specific pricing. Fee types determine when and how fees are calculated.
- Handling service type: A standard classification of services that handlers provide (e.g., aircraft towing, ground power unit, lavatory service). Service types ensure consistent terminology across all handler configurations.
- Applicability: Rules that determine when a fee type applies, based on whether the operation is a departure or arrival and whether it occurs during day or night hours.
- Default quantity calculation: The method used to determine the default quantity for a fee, either as a fixed number or based on passenger count.
- Active vs. deactivated: Active items are available for use when configuring fees and services. Deactivated items remain in the system for historical records but cannot be applied to new operations.
2 Page layout and navigation
The Services & Fees Settings page uses a tabbed interface to separate the two configuration areas:
- Airport Fee Types tab: Manage standard fee categories for airports
- Handling Service Types tab: Manage standard service classifications for handlers
Click a tab to switch between the two configuration areas. Each tab retains its own search filters, view selection (Active/Deactivated), and pagination settings independently.
3 Managing airport fee types
The Airport Fee Types tab displays all configured fee type categories. These fee types become available when setting up airport-specific fees and country-level fees throughout the system.
3.1 Viewing airport fee types
The page displays fee types in either Active or Deactivated view, controlled by radio buttons at the top of the page. Switch between views to see currently available fee types or those that have been deactivated.
Search and filter
Use the search box at the top-left to find fee types quickly. The search applies to:
- Fee type name
Search results update as you type. An information icon next to the search box displays the searchable fields when you hover over it.
Airport fee types table
The table displays fee types based on the selected view (Active or Deactivated). In the Active view, the table shows three columns:
Active View Columns
| Column | Meaning | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Edit | Edit button | Opens the edit window for modifying fee type details |
| Fee name | Name of the fee type | Descriptive name used when applying fees at airports |
| Deactivate | Deactivation button | Moves the fee type to the Deactivated view |
In the Deactivated view, the table shows fee names with a sortable column header and an Activate button to restore fee types to active status.
Pagination
If 16 or more fee types exist in the current view, pagination controls and an items-per-page selector appear. Choose 15, 30, or 60 items per page using the dropdown above the table.
3.2 Creating a new airport fee type
Click the "Add airport fee type" button at the top-right of the page to open the creation window.
Steps to create a fee type
- Enter a descriptive name for the fee type (required)
- Select applicability options for when this fee type applies
- Configure the default quantity calculation method
- Click Submit to save the new fee type
Fee type configuration fields
Fee name: A clear, descriptive name for this fee category (e.g., "Landing Fee", "Parking Fee", "Security Charge"). Required field.
Applicable for (departures and arrivals): Select at least one option:
- Departures: Fee type applies to outbound flights
- Arrivals: Fee type applies to inbound flights
Applicable for (day and night): Select at least one option:
- Day: Fee type applies during day operations
- Night: Fee type applies during night operations
Default quantity calculation: Select how the quantity is determined when this fee type is applied:
- Fixed default quantity: Use a fixed quantity that you specify. When selected, a "Default Quantity" field appears to enter the fixed number.
- No. of passengers: Quantity is automatically calculated based on passenger count
Validation rules: You must select at least one option for departures/arrivals applicability. If neither is selected, the system displays "Applicable type is required" and prevents submission. Day/night options default to both being selected.
Result
After clicking Submit, the new fee type is saved and appears in the Active view table. The window closes automatically, and the page refreshes to show the updated list. The new fee type becomes immediately available when configuring airport-specific fees.
3.3 Editing an airport fee type
Click the edit button () in any fee type row to open the editing window. The window displays the same fields as when creating a new fee type, pre-populated with current values.
Steps to edit
- Modify the fee name, applicability options, or default quantity settings as needed
- Click Submit to save changes, or Cancel to discard changes
Result
After clicking Submit, changes are saved and the table refreshes to display updated information. Changes to fee type names or settings affect how the fee type appears when configuring fees, but do not retroactively change fees already configured at airports.
3.4 Deactivating and activating fee types
Deactivating a fee type removes it from active use without deleting historical data. Deactivated fee types cannot be applied to new airport fee configurations but remain associated with existing fees where they were previously used.
To deactivate a fee type
- In the Active view, click the deactivate button () for the fee type
- The fee type immediately moves to the Deactivated view
To activate a fee type
- Switch to the Deactivated view using the radio button
- Click the activate button () for the fee type
- The fee type immediately moves back to the Active view
Tip: If you no longer use a particular fee type but it exists in historical records, deactivate it rather than leaving it active. This keeps your active fee types list focused on current operations without losing historical data.
4 Managing handling service types
The Handling Service Types tab displays all configured service type classifications. These service types become available when setting up handler-specific services at airports.

5 Common scenarios
Setting up fee types for a new operation
When starting operations at new airports or expanding fee categories, begin by creating the necessary airport fee types in this settings page. Define fee types for common charges such as landing fees, parking fees, handling fees, and any regulatory charges. Once created, these fee types will be available when configuring specific fees at each airport.
Standardising handler services
Before configuring services with individual handlers, establish standard service type classifications here. Create service types for all services your handlers provide, such as aircraft towing, ground power, passenger stairs, catering services, and fuel services. This ensures consistent terminology across all handler configurations and simplifies service fee comparisons.
Managing seasonal or time-based fees
Use the day/night applicability settings in airport fee types to distinguish between fees that apply during different operating hours. For example, you might create separate fee types for "Night Landing Fee" and "Day Landing Fee" if your operations require different fee structures based on time of day.
Cleaning up unused classifications
Periodically review your fee types and service types to identify classifications that are no longer in use. Deactivate these items to keep active lists focused on current operations. Historical records remain intact, but the deactivated items won't clutter dropdown menus when configuring new fees or services.
